After a fascinating journey covering more than 300 years, the original cannon that stood on the Tygerberg Hills in the 1700’s has finally come home, has been restored and is ready to be fired!
We did our first firing following the cannon’s restoration.
DATE: Saturday, 6 April 2013
VENUE: at the top of Tygerberg hill, Tygerberg Nature Reserve, Bellville.
Please note that it is a 15-minute walk from the entrance of the reserve to the top of the hill.
The annual Friends of Tygerberg Hills cheese and wine took place on Tuesday, 6 November 2012 at the nature reserve and it was a great success.
Andre Hart and his team from Hart of Africa brought a great deal of wine from Brandvlei Cellars, which proved very popular with our rather thirsty members! Andre assured us that we would not run out of wine (‘we’ll order more meat before we run out of wine!’ he said), and he was right! Many thanks to Andre and his team for their generosity as well as their wonderful spirit of fun.
By all accounts (as well as the empty bottles), the Brandvlei Cabernet Sauvignon, an award winning wine, was extremely popular. Those who don’t drink alcohol weren’t left out: on offer was really refreshing Brandvlei red and white grape juice too.
Andre and his team also donated the raffle for the night: four bottles of wine, one of which had a special Friends of Tygerberg Hills label. The lucky winner walked off with four great bottles of wine for the cost of a R5.00 raffle ticket.
Our thanks go to Pat McGuinness and Mike Philips for arranging the evening, as well as to our team of workers: Brieta, Gret, Pearl and Desi. And once again to Hart of Africa who made the evening possible.
